Race Kit Pick Up

From 10-2 on Saturday, October 9th curb-side pick-up style in the bus loop at École Sage Creek School, 315 Sage Creek Blvd. All participants were sent a detailed email outlining pick-up procedures, please check your junk/spam/other folder if it's not in your inbox!


COVID-19 Safety Protocols

As you can imagine we are being very careful to limit the risk due to COVID-19 for all runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators. We are also bound by the expectations of the province, city, Louis Riel School Division, École Sage Creek School, Athletics Manitoba, and the Manitoba Runners Association when it comes to minimizing risk. It is also important to acknowledge that there are risks associated with entering the event site and that the measures taken by the event organizers and participants, including those set out below, will minimize but not eliminate those risks.

If there is any doubt in your mind about whether it is safe or appropriate for you to attend Run Sage Creek in person: please stay home. Contact us at to make alternate arrangements for your race kit, and to switch your registration to virtual.

There are three opportunities where you will need to consider your risk (or that of a minor child accompanying you) for transmitting COVID-19 to others: 

  1. Before attending Race Kit Pickup on Saturday, October 9 from 10-2 at 315 Sage Creek Blvd in the school bus loop, 
  2. At race kit pickup, prior to receiving your race kit, and
  3. On race day morning, before you come to the start line.

Further, you agree to adhere to the following safety measures when attending Race Kit Pickup and Run Sage Creek:

  • Wearing a mask in more congested areas where 2m of space can not be maintained.
    • Runners/walkers: wear a mask at the start line. Once you get going and spread out from other participants you may remove it. Please be prepared to put it back on at the finish line if there is congestion there, but we will do our best to minimize it and keep folks moving.
    • Volunteers in higher contact areas will wear a mask; those working as course marshals are not obligated to when at their post.
  • Hand washing or use of hand sanitizer before handling food, and after using the bathroom.
  • Maintain physical distance of at least 2m from others.
  • You will be asked to leave the event site if you do not adhere to these safety measures.

Course Information

Is this event in-person, virtual, or both?
We are working on contingency plans for an in-person event if public health restrictions permit, but are simultaneously planning for a virtual option. Our goal this year is to enjoy and explore our beautiful neighbourhood, so there will be options for everyone regardless of whether we gather in-person, or explore on our own.

My child wants to run in the 1 km race but might not do it without me. Do I have to register too?
The 1 km Fun Run was designed with children in mind, including our smallest runners! There is no age minimum or maximum but the runner/walker must be registered to be accompanied by a caregiver. 

One parent or caregiver aged 12 or older may run with younger children without being registered for the 1 km Fun Run, but they will not receive the race kit. All unregistered parents and caregivers who accompany children on the course will be required to sign a course waiver at race kit pickup.

I want to run in the 3K or 5K and push my child in the stroller. Do I have to register the child?

One parent or caregiver may walk or run with children 5 or under without registering them provided that child remains in the stroller for the entire route, and the caregiver signs a waiver on their behalf at race kit pickup. Unregistered children who accompany a registered caregiver will not receive a race kit.

Will there be road closures on race day?
If we gather in-person then yes, there will be lane closures, and where the route crosses a road there will be temporary closures by course marshals to allow runners to safely cross. What type of running surfaces can I expect?
You can expect a combination of sidewalks, roadways, and limestone trails that wind their way through Sage Creek. Route maps are available here.

Medical Assistance
If we gather for an in-person event then medical assistance will be provided by qualified volunteers. Look for medical volunteers at the finish line and throughout the course.

Cheering and Support
Runners and walkers of all ages and ability levels love to be cheered along as they go! If you live on the race route please wave, smile, and cheer as the runners and walkers pass! If you are attending with a runner or walker, but aren't registered yourself, please do find a comfortable and safe location from which to cheer.

Do I have to run? Can I walk?
We encourage all ages and all levels of fitness and have distances to accommodate all activity levels. View course maps here.

We encourage everyone in the family to participate, even if that means they’re cheering from their stroller. Out of consideration for other participants, please start near the back of the start line to reduce traffic jams. Children 5 and under who remain in the stroller for the entire route do not need to register separately from a running/walking parent or caregiver - but we will need that caregiver to sign a waiver on their behalf at race kit pickup.

For the safety of all participants and your pets, dogs are not permitted on the course.

Is there a fee?
Yes, rates are on our registration page. Run Sage Creek is a walk/run in the Sage Creek Community with the goal to encourage and inspire everyone to get outside and be active. Funds raised will go to the Parent Advisory Council of École Sage Creek School

How was the event date chosen?
Run Sage Creek’s Race Committee members discussed several possible fall dates, knowing that many people are away during the summer. We chose to have a fall event once families have settled back into their back-to-school routines and the weather is milder to give the opportunity for more of our community and beyond to participate in our second annual event.

Although we realize it falls on Thanksgiving weekend, October 10, 2021 was selected since it aligns closely with Terry Fox week at École Sage Creek School without competing with other events in and around Winnipeg. We have run/walk events available for everyone in the family and we hope you make Run Sage Creek part of your Thanksgiving tradition.
